summer sounds 2011

Summer Sounds tickets at the Hollywood Bowl go on sale May 14th at 10am. Three sessions. For group rate you need 20-get $2 off performance and $2 off art project-but all must show up together to be seated. If people are interested we can all try to go on the same day to same performance and art times (two are offered each day). For the second session we can go on July 18th, day before three weeks, and the third session we can go either Thursday or Friday August 11th and 12th (after tisha b'av).

KOREATOWN

Weeks 1 & 2 (Jul 5-15)
MUSIC: The Korean Classical Music and Dance Company, led by Don Kim, will take you on an exploration of authentic Korean music, with their unique instruments and their exciting, elegant fan dances. Learn about our own Koreatown.
ART: Celebrate Korean culture – make a musical instrument, make your own fan and much more.

GOSPEL IN HOLLYWOOD

Weeks 3 & 4 (Jul 18-29)
MUSIC: With their joyful gospel music, Sylvia St. James & the St. James Singers will lift your spirits and get you clapping your hands! You’ll be inspired to find gospel music in your own neighborhood.
ART: Get into the gospel spirit – paint pictures, make a beaded necklace and much more.

IRISH IN LA

Weeks 5 & 6 (Aug 1-12)
MUSIC: Irish music is alive and well in L.A.! Ken O’Malley belts out a feisty blend of traditional and new Irish folk music. His passionate stories of his homeland will delight you with their humor and joy as Irish step dancers enliven the party.
ART: Explore Irish heritage – create a sculpture, make a beaded painting and much more.
