| | | Instrument Petting Zoo Begins June 21
|  | Each summer, members of Ovation!, the volunteer organization of the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, take the Instrument Petting Zoo to Long Beach neighborhood libraries. They demonstrate how the instruments of the orchestra work, how they make different sounds, and how they fit into the orchestra. Next, the children have the opportunity to try the instruments—woodwinds, brass, percussion, and strings. It is a unique opportunity for children and parents alike to explore the instruments of the orchestra. The joy the children radiate when they make a beautiful sound on an instrument for the first time is truly priceless. This program is a precursor to the LBSO’s more in-depth Elementary Ensemble school visits in the second- and third-grades.

I'll have to check with hubby on tomorrow's plans. Afternoon probably better. Any other takers? We could do Cabrillo first, or maybe something Palos Verdes, or maybe the light house at Point Fermin and take kites and fly them in the little park there...Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteWe checked the instrument petting zoo out today. Another family met us there and their kids seemed to enjoy themselves, as did two of mine. The other two of mine thought that it was too noisy and too many people in too small space. I'm not sure whether this is worth the drive to Long Beach unless you pair up with another Long Beach outing, like those I describe above. Also, the July 6th outing at 2 might get you home before rush hour gets really bad.
