JPL's Open House is on May 15th, along with a slew of other stuff: a kite festival in Huntington Beach, Free Days at several museums along the Arroyo Seco, and more. Daniel cautions that the kite festival will likely not be dad-friendly due to tznius issues.
On L'ag B'Omer (May 22, I think?) it will be the Oxnard Strawberry Festival. BTW, there's a tznius art exhibit right now in Oxnard through May 22nd if you are headed out there. It shows plein air California landscapes and is at the Carnegie Museum of Art. It's not worth a separate trip, but for older kids or adults, it would pair up nicely with the Strawberry Festival, beach, or a visit to Tierra Sur. The art is really stunning.
Father's Day, there will be a free car show in Beverly Hills, as well as a car show (don't know if it's free or not) in Oxnard.

tide pools in Palos Verdes (accessible through Trump Golf Course...if anyone knows how to get down to the ones from Abalone Cove, please share!)
subway ride downtown, then exploring Olvera St. and other historic sites
museums in Exposition Park
Rancho Los Alamitos
Huntington Gardens Free Day (if we can manage to score tickets!)
Skirball
farms in Valley (Underwood) or O.C. (Tanaka...any other leads?)
Weekly visit to BH or Robertson library
Kayla mentioned getting group rates on some excursions and also looking up the free concerts available at the Hollywood Bowl.

ReplyDeleteMiriam, Daniel went two years ago, and indeed the lines were LONG! However, Aryeh insists the lines weren't "too long." I just asked for more details from him:
For some attractions, 15-20 mins. waits, others just a minute or two. Average was probably 7 or 8 mins.
The Noah's Ark exhibit at the skirball is free on Thursdays. You should get advanced tickets...they is a 4 children to 1 adult ratio...FYI

ReplyDeleteThere is a year membership deal at the LA Zoo. It is $61 for a family package is you buy by 6/30/11. You need to use the promo code 11103PNA. I don't like to go too much in the summer b/c of the heat, but there is always Sukkot time, Chanukah, and any old plain Sunday in the winter.
