This link explains that there's an unusually profuse growth of this plant, the "poodle-dog" bush, in So Cal this year. Contact brings an itchy rash that lasts quite a while. Please avoid, even though it's pretty! Hikers have been laid up for up to 2 weeks after touching it!
Here's what to look for:
Lavender flowers, almost fluffy appearance.
It grows particularly well in areas previously burned by wild fires.
